If you are citizen for a country visa exempt you will only need an electronic travel authorization (eta). This authorization is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first for those visiting Canada. 

If you have a new passport, you will need a new eTA. 

Attention If  have a valid Canadian visa you don’t need to apply for an eTA.
